6 SEO Tips To Increase Blog Traffic
Newbie bloggers and those who’ve been blogging for years often ignore the importance of SEO in blogging. Then, later on they would question why they don’t get good traffic. Having a good traffic is essential for every blogger, at least those who are serious when it comes to blogging. To have effective blog posts that create great impact, your blog posts should have greater exposures. SEO plays an important role in exposing blog posts.
Here are 6 simple SEO tips and tricks that you should start applying before you publish your blog post.
1. RESEARCH FOR THE KEYWORD
Finding the keyword for your blog post is the basic step to optimize your blog post on search engines. You have to research what keywords people often search on search engines. First, you have to know what topic your blog post is about. Then from there, narrow your topic to related keywords.
On this blog post, my topic is about SEO. If I will narrow down the topic to keywords, I’ll get “Tips”, “Blogging”, “Blog”, “Search Engine Optimization”, “Traffic”, “Stats”, “SEO.”
Then, I use this tool Google Keyword Tool to find keyword ideas. I searched for SEO, and I found out that SEO tips have more searches than the rest of the keywords and it has low competition. It means, there are 9,900 monthly searches by people who wrote SEO tips on search engines. The great thing about this keyword is that it has low competition. It means, the sites occupying the first places in Google are easily beaten. So, there is more chance that this blog post I’m writing about SEO may be seen by people researching for SEO tips.
You should not choose a keyword that has high monthly searches and high competition. It means there are many pages who feature that keyword on their sites, so it is difficult to compete with those sites.
Good monthly search volume + Low competition = SEO success
High monthly search volume + High competition = SEO failure
2. INCLUDE THE KEYWORD TO YOUR HEADLINE
After researching for the high SEO potential keyword, include that keyword to your headline. Make sure that you include the keyword near to the front of the headline.

3. Customize your permalink
Permalink is the customizable link for your blog post. When you type blog post title, WordPress generates a customized headline. If your title is long, WordPress will also generate a long permalink.
Instead, change your permalink to your primary keyword.

4. Naming your images
One thing that many bloggers don’t have an idea about is that naming images will actually drive traffic to your blog. You may have been using images just to supplement an idea to your blog post but images have great SEO benefits.
Here are the three steps:
1. Save your images as keyword-phrase.png before you upload them to your site.
2. When you have already uploaded the image to your blog, add a title to your image with the keyword phrase.
3. Then, add alt text with the same keyword phrase.
These rules apply to your featured image and the images within your posts.
5. USE HEADINGS SMARTLY
Add subheadings but smartly. You should only use heading 1 once on every blog post. The blog post title is heading 1 by default. So, you won’t need to use heading 1 again. If you will break down the main topic to categories, use heading 2. If you will need to further break down the categories to subcategories, use heading 3. And, so on. Headings 4-6 aren’t used often unless you have a very detailed blog post.
On this blog post, my blog post title is heading 1 by default. I use heading 2 for each title of the tip and heading 3 for the subcategories of the tip linking. Here is the layout of how I use headings.

On the other hand, external linking is linking posts from other sites or blogs that are related to your blog. Mentioning others’ sites to your blog is also external linking. You can use external linking when mentioning blogs from where you got the inspiration to blog about a specific topic. For this blog post, I got the inspiration from Embrace WP and Yoast.
