Let Your Passion Find You

passion

We’ve been told several times to follow our passion but how can we follow our passion if we don’t have any idea what our passion is?

My friendly advice for today is let passion find you. You can do it by exposing yourself to many things that you find interesting and even those things you don’t find interesting at all. You won’t know how interested you are at something unless you encounter it yourself. We aren’t told what our passion are or what things we are good at, so we don’t have any idea about these until we discover it. On my quest to finding my passion, I tried finding researches on how to discover passion. But, there’s no easy formula saying xyz + yzx = passion. And, I realized passion isn’t to be chased. We discover passion by letting it find us. Surprisingly, sometimes those things you thought would never interest you are actually the ones you will grow better with.

I was one of those many people who didn’t know what they wanted to do when they grew up. Well, I was told to take up a course I didn’t actually like to and to do things that I’ve never been passionate about. It made me miserable because I felt like I wasted time doing things I didn’t want to do. It’s not helping me at all. I was like breathing for things that weren’t meant for me. You know that feeling? I quit a lot of things that I don’t find helpful to my growth. That was a tough decision but I did it for myself. But, not knowing what to do next was another misery I had to face.

On my quest to discovering what my passions are, I end up letting passion find me. By trying out different things even those things I thought I didn’t like, failing several times, exposing myself to a bigger world and letting others teach me about their passion I discovered where I’m good at.

I got into the blogging world without expecting anything from it. I just did it for personal reasons but after years of blogging, I got exposed to more things and led me to be passionate about writing, designing, online entrepreneurship and digital marketing.

I hated arts and designs growing up. But, I didn’t notice that I was already exposing myself to designing graphics and websites because someone influenced me to do so. I was curious and amazed at how she did it so I tried it myself too. I didn’t know it’d be something I would greatly enjoy that it would become a source of income for me by offering web design services to bloggers.

Entering med school is a dream I almost give up because I couldn’t see myself passionate about it. But, lately I got a habit of exposing myself to the medicine world by listening to the experiences of my relatives and friends who are already doctors and med students and by watching surgical operations I used to fear watching. My interest started to grow and those led me to continue my plan of entering med school. I got my motivation back and finally I can say my interest in med school is enough for me to start preparing for it.

How to let passion find us?

  • Go outside your comfort zone
  • Expose yourself to many things
  • Try things yourself
  • Overcome your fears
  • If it doesn’t interest you at all, leave it and try something else again
  • Let others teach you about their passion

Passion isn’t something you already know, it is something you have to discover. So start letting your passion find you by doing the things above.
